'Real Writers don't 'Flash'. ' Call me bigotted , but I too felt that way until recently, and I love to write short stories. In fact, I've always said a well crafted short story in the bush is worth 2 short manuscripts in the hand. Go figure! I've learned a lesson however. An even shorter story--a 'flash' of less than 1000 words can be worth 2 short stories and 3 manuscripts in the hand :)
Seriously though, any well crafted engaging piece of writing is priceless---with its own element(s) of uniqueness. So no more sneering here folks. I took out a library book of International Flash Fiction and found them all interesting and often enlighting. Some of my fav's were less than 500 words long. Now that's Skillful writing if it conveys what the author intends to the reader !!! I found it lovely to pick up the volume, read a few and let them percolate. I was even inspired to write one myself , and am now on the search for an appropriate contest to enter it in. Try it yourself--Get Shorty!
