Too cosy and comfortable Feb 11/2014
Winter is my usual writing time but Covid-19 has thrown that a curve this year. I spent from Christmas to now, painting and redecorating my basement walkout, a task though slow in the completion making immeasureable impact on my psychological well being -- i.e. new pathways in the brain fixing a toilet and other things; the delight in 'shopping the house' and repurposing forgotten items; culling unnecessary items with the 'gift, keep, sell , donate' m.o.; and decorating with a warm and welcoming colour palette. Lovely.
Here's the problem. I wanted a sleek and uncluttered look, hoping to lounge by the fire and 'write away' using my now equally 'uncluttered' brain. To further the 'ideal' , I used low 3 drawer pine cabinets to hide a previous multitude of sins, using also to display art works and the 32" TV (I need no larger). Every wall sported something referencing my life-- there was the 'horse' wall, the 'pets' wall, the 'culture' wall , the 'farm ' wall, the 'art' nook and the 'game of darts 'area. Heaven!
Not!! I find I have to be a little 'uncomfortable ' to write so the rec room is reserved for relaxation now, and I'm still writing at the Bistro trable in the Bay window on the main floor , which is lovely too, but wingchairs are not so conducive to napping :)
