Rose of Sharon Festivus Weekend Aug/2026

Every year, since I have about 25+ self-seeded Rose of Sharons, I put on a small Festivus for friends to enjoy -- hopefuly a 'blooming good time' with food and drink. I prefer the 'doubles' that look a bit like carnations in pink and white and bluey purple , but there are lovely 'bouquets' of mixed colours throughout the garden. Yes, they are invasive, but softy here finds it difficult to slay such beauty although a good weedwhacker is one's best defence against the onslaught of seedlings in early spring to keep the numbers down. What IS particularly nice however, is that with our hot hot summers now, when all the other flowering plants have given up, the Rose of Sharon sees you through to Fall with lovely huger displays . You have to love them or hate them-- I do both , depending ....

As to writing program, publishing my finished and edited short story volume has been on hold since May for as per usual, Summer and the outdoors always take precedent . It is not time for writing or publishing yet -- winter ennui will take care of all that ...

I was surprised and delighted however, when our local little neighbourhood magazine/newspaper contacted me via the London Writers Society, to do a profile of Local Talent . What do t hey say about publicity-- you can never have enough, good or bad-- it all works !
