Getting a bit of a jump on things as won't normally blog until the end of October, but happy with my progress so far on this second effort and not so fraught with angsty timeframes.
I have been doing the reread and edit of Draft No. 2, Celtic Knots. My formula is to do 10 pages a day in a 30 day month = 300 pages, the length of the book.
How do I do it? First, daily, I read through the 10 pages (which is usually a chapter length anyway--if not, I'll do the whole chapter to the end of it.) I am looking for the obvious to correct i.e. flow, chronological time, confusing clue information, character depiction etc.
Having done this for the chosen segment, I go back over the 10 pages for grammar, spelling, sentence structure etc. Lastly, I put it on Audio, and listen to the speech program read over that section.
I actually think the 'male voice' has progressed to the point, unlike Siri, of picking up inflections and significant pauses, adding a bit of character to the read. Of course, I could be just hearing what I want to hear, but regardless, I look on the disembodied voice like a sort of welcome partner, a 'ghost talker' if you will (as opposed to 'writer'. ) Originally I resented this step in the process, now as the last step in the process, I welcome the warm and enthusiastic baritone. Strangely enough, 'he' has become a sort of support person in this endeavour, 'his' interest in the project, just as engaged as mine :)
