If You're Not Failing , You're Not Trying

What ? Another rejection slip ? Boo Hoo! Stop moisturizing that epidermis and allow to 'thicken'. In the meantime , if you're writing for fame and fortune, good luck (especially in today's market), but first you have to:

a) be passionate about an idea,

b) be willing to put in the time to develop said 'gel' to completion,

c) put in even more time honing the tale to perfection,

d) research likely and appropriate markets ( e.g. the Writer's Digest at : www.writersdigest.com is a good place to start) ,

e) prepare your 'quiry' submission requirements: e-format or printed paper; font size, spacing, summary, author bio etc etc.,

f) prepare for rejection,

g) prepare for elation if to be published but READ the contract thoroughly before signing and take note of all implications (i.e. what are the copyright stipulations as to publication down the road, rights in foreign countries etc, promotional requirements etc ),

h) prepare for further editing requests from the publisher even though now you can hardly look at the thing, you've gone over it so many times , and finally

i) prepare to buy several of your own works back (at author's discount) once published, to give to deserving relatives and friends.

Then, and only then, you are allowed to proudly display on a shelf....and let it gather dust.

Still; onward and upward, eh?
