The Push Me-Pull Me Aspect of Poetry
Poets and Poetry of course never get their fair share of recognition. Probably in my case , this is warranted ( See this website's Menu Button Flotsam and Jetsam ) :)
I facetiously call my efforts 'mopes' --obviously an annagram and no offence intended to good poetry. But my point here is that most poetry is rather serious , and because of that requires more thought usually than regular prose. That's a turn off to some, and I myself find I have to be in the mood to tackle most poetry , although 'Stopping By Woods' by Robert Frost for example has particular meaning for me and I don't need to prepare myself too much beforehand before diving into that deceptively simple effort. I only write poetry actually, when the fit comes upon me, whereas prose just flows most of the time.
Poetry of course is generally more intensely personal, and perhaps it is not just effort but ease required, in exposing that. If more people displayed their vulnerabililty instead of hiding
it , think how interesting that would be ---to really get to KNOW someone with their defences down--- and what compassion and empathy might then be generated ...
Well, I'm doing my bit :)
